The Buckeye Lake Pirate Fest officially sets sail with a signature opening tradition: the Pass the Flag Ceremony, followed by the Official Ribbon Cutting at Port Royal at Captain Big Stan’s on Friday May 15, 2026. This multi‑location celebration brings together local leaders, business owners, festival partners, and the Buckeye Lake Pirates for a ceremonial journey across the lake and land.
The ceremony begins at Pirates Dock – at the Boatyard in the Village of Buckeye Lake, where Mayor Linda Goodman will gather with special guests and members of the Buckeye Lake Pirates, including Commodore Silvermane Flint and his scurvy Pirate Crew. After a brief presentation, the Mayor and other dignitaries will board boats captained by Captain Buck and Captain Jon. They’ll be accompanied by an escort fleet of pirates on jet skis lead by the Team Dakota Pirate Crew.
The flag will be carried across the lake to the Port Smokehouse Pirate Haven in Thornport: symbolizing the festival’s expansion and the unity of the Buckeye Lake region.
Upon arrival at the Port Smokehouse, the Mayor and her crew will be greeted with a brief welcome ceremony and the presentation of a commemorative flag to our Pirate Haven. After photos and greetings, the group will board waiting vehicles for the 1/2-mile eastbound trip to Captain Big Stan’s.
The final stop is the main stage at Port Royal at Captain Big Stan’s, where the Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM. Speakers will share brief remarks before the ribbon is cut, marking the official opening of Pirate Fest 2026.
Transportation will be available after the ceremony to return participants to the Port Smokehouse or the Boatyard as needed.
